Rep. Braley on Rescission Practices
Posted by admin
Today, the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations held a hearing entitled “Terminations of Individual Health Policies by Insurance Companies.” The hearing examined the practice of “post-claims underwriting,” which occurs when insurance companies cancel individual health insurance policies after providers submit claims for medical services rendered.
The Committee conducted an investigation into the
practice of health insurance rescission, and the results were alarming. Over the past five years, almost 20,000 individual insurance policyholders have had their policies rescinded by the three insurance companies who testified today: Assurant, UnitedHealth Group, and WellPoint.

Rep. Bradley, You …
Rep. Bradley, You hit the nail on the head. You exactly understand what we little people have to go through with insurance companies. Our life savings is now on the line because the pre-approved surgery was rescinded AFTER the procedure. The hospital is now taking the $200,000.00 medical bill to dept collections. In no way can the victim recover with this anvil of debt hanging over him.

What gets me is the …
What gets me is the Republicans claiming that Private Insurance could not survive competition with a Government Option. All my life, I have heard them say that anything the Government can do, private industry can do better. I worked for Blue Shield once as a Customer Service Rep. When I left, I felt like I got my soul back and that was in the 80′s!

Insurance companies …
Insurance companies are only out to screw you out of your money for as long as they can before cancelling your coverage. As an RN I am well aware of the poor coverage offered to most of the American public. Single payer is the only way to make certain that most people gets the coverage they need and deserve. The Emergency Rooms of hospitals is NOT the place for routine care for those without insurance. STOP Listening to the Republicans.
