Contact State Lawmakers About Mcare Abatement and Retirement of Mcare Fund

Please contact your state senator and representative and ask them to delink the extension of Mcare abatement and the retirement of the Mcare Fund from the complex issue of expansion of health care insurance coverage.

These issues will be discussed during the budget process, and are critical to hospital advocacy efforts.

The Mcare abatement program expired on December 31, 2007, and the Governor extended collection of Mcare assessments until March 31, 2008. The Governor and House Democrat leaders linked the passage of an expanded health care insurance coverage plan with the continuation of Mcare abatement. Efforts to pass legislation in the House to extend Mcare abatement failed, and the Mcare abatement program no longer exists.
