I need to get basic individual health insurance. I’m no longer covered by my dad’s company’s insurance provider because I am no longer a full-time student. I don’t need prescription coverage because I can pay for those myself. I live in New Jersey and I need a policy that allows me to be covered all over the United States, because I will be leaving in 2 weeks on a broadway national tour, going everywhere from Florida to Washington state. All of the websites I have found on Google are confusing me, and I keep getting directed back to ehealthinsurance which gives me the same quotes for the same NJ-only insurance providers. No idea what to do now. Any advice? Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it.

I read this story today: "The Obama administration is asking Anthem Blue Cross to justify its plans to raise health insurance premiums…"
"Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sent a letter to the company’s president on Monday calling the planned increases extraordinary and difficult to understand. She wrote that the company has an obligation to provided a detailed justification for the rate hikes to the public."
I thought that health insurers were state regulated and regulated by the NAIC–not the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Rates are filed in each STATE, not federally, except for Medicare.
The obvious conclusion is, that the Obama administration has no idea how health insurance companies work.

It depends on several factors, including the type of business, age of the group members, general health and claims experience of the members (and any family members also included in the plan), location, type of plan, and deductible.
For the sake of comparison, if everyone is in fairly good health and not working in a physically dangerous job, in Virginia a plan with a $500 deductible (and $25 copayments for doctor office visits from day one) would run approximately $3000/month. If anyone in the group is seriously overweight, or has any significant health issues, it could easily go to $4500 (or more, depending on how many people have issues.)
Honestly, you’d really need to speak with an agent who can help you determine what’s called the CMF (a rating factor they use based on the health and claims experience of the members of the group) and figure out which plans might be a good match.
